The verification of the deity of Jesus Christ in gospel account of Luke chapter 8

Psalm 104:4; He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.

The story in Luke chapter 8 verses 22 to 25 verifies the deity of Jesus Christ; by calming the storm, a feature or characteristic of God, that is control of the elements. God has complete control over all the elements of the material universe. So that He can commission His servants to use them according to His will. In Exodus 9:18-26, there is a demonstration of this power. So that He can make them rebuke the sin of man. He can arm the universe against a wicked soul. God can prevent them from working injury to the good. The heathen imagined that divers gods were over divers things; some ruling the air, some the fire, some the water, some the mountains, and some the plains. But God here demonstrates to the Egyptians His complete authority over the whole of nature. This truth is consoling to the good.

This is further acknowledged by Paul in his writings to the Philippians in chapter 2 verses 6 to 9; Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage, 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.

The casting out of demons or impure spirits, who are themselves immortal creatures, is another example of the deity of Christ. The Lord is the God of all human spirits, and He has authority over them all. The account in Luke chapter 8 verses 26 to 39 is a verification of the deity of Christ. One of the most exceptional manifestation of the power of God is the casting out of demons. Solomon was reputed to have been able to do this in accounts outside the synoptic sources. Jesus made a reference to this in the synoptic account of the gospel of Matthew chapter 12 verses 42 to 45. And in another gospel account, after Jesus Christ had endowed His disciples with power and sent them out to heal and evangelize, after they came back, a man brought his son possessed by demons for healing, which the disciples could not do, and Jesus Christ told them that this kind of casting out require more fasting and praying than other forms of manifestation of God’s power. There is strict adherence to order and authority in the spiritual realm, and as stated in Philippians 2 verses 10 to 11; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The authority over demons and other impure spirits is a verification of the deity of Christ.

The power of life and death belongs to God alone, and He is the One that can destroy the body and soul, as stated by Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:28; Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. God made man from dust and put part of His spirit into him, Genesis 2:7; Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. This is confirmed in Jeremiah 32:27; I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. And furthermore, in Numbers 27:16; the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things. Therefore in the gospel account of Luke chapter 8 verses 40 to 56, wherein there is the account of Jesus Christ bringing a dead girl (the daughter of Jairus, a leader of the synagogue) back to life, the clue here is in verse 55, where we were told that the spirit of the girl returned to her, we have the demonstration of the power of God, the power of life and death. The Lord God is the God of all spirits. This is once more a verification of the deity of Christ Jesus.
