It is ironic that the God that has no name, places a huge significance on names. Names are normally given to an individual or living organism or non-living things, by the “Father” or Creator or Maker or discoverer or perceiver or guardian. And since God has no “Father”, except when He gave birth to Himself in the case of God as the Son, this is understandable. In Exodus 6:3, when Moses first spoke with God, God said, “I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as El Shaddai, but I did not make myself known to them by my name YHWH.” YHWH (יהוה) is the proper name of God in Judaism.
Neither vowels nor vowel points were used in ancient Hebrew writings and the original vocalisation of YHWH has been lost. Later commentaries additionally suggested that the true pronunciation of this name is composed entirely of vowels, such as the Greek Ιαουε. However, this is put into question by the fact that vowels were only distinguished in the time-period by their very absence due to the lack of explicit vowels in the Hebrew script. The resulting substitute made from semivowels and glottals, known as the tetragrammaton, is not ordinarily permitted to be pronounced aloud, even in prayer.
The prohibition on misuse (not use) of this name is the primary subject of the command not to take the name of the Lord in vain. Halakha requires that secondary rules be placed around the primary law, to reduce the chance that the main law will be broken. As such, it is common religious practice to restrict the use of the word “Adonai” to prayer only. In conversation, many Jewish people, even when not speaking Hebrew, will call God HaShem (השם), which is Hebrew for “the Name” (this appears in Leviticus 24:11). Almost all Orthodox Jews avoid using either Yahweh or Jehovah altogether on the basis that the actual pronunciation of the tetragrammaton has been lost in antiquity. Many use the term HaShem as an indirect reference, or they use “God” or “The Lord” instead.
There is constant, ignorant misuse or irreverence or quite simply lack of understanding about the nature of God, that can be illustrated below; imagine a father [see Mathew 23:9; And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.] with two children named Peter and Paul, Paul stole money or wife belonging to Peter, subsequently Peter, out of the ensuing enmity requested their father to kill Paul, obviously this is a request any sane father will not comply with. But this is exactly what people generally do in major prayer points when praying to God to destroy their enemies. However, when doing this, they refer to God as the Holy Spirit [calling on Holy Ghost fire]. The funny thing is, they never request or ask God as the Son to do their dirty and insane bidding.
This is something God foresaw before the Creation of the world, and therefore planned and execute for Himself, a Name that would not be tarnished by such ignorance, through given birth to Himself in human form, naming Himself with a Name that would not be tarnished, and accomplishing a goal in that form, being registered in human history with that Name. This was testified to and confirmed by God as the Son, Messiah and His disciples in John 17:11; Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me. Furthermore, apostle Paul confirmed this in Philippians 2:9; Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.
