Numbering our days

There is a saying that goes thus: An elderly person that does not get angry, is the one whose children increases in number. The Scriptures contains nuggets of wisdom, some of which are metaphors, while others are direct straightforward literal advice and instructions.

An example of the former can be found in the prayer of Moses in Psalm 90 verse 12, Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. By itself, this seems to be a strange prayer point. Since most of us know how to tell time, count days, weeks, and years. So, to be asking God to teach us how to count our days, seems a bit odd.

However, age in years is not synonymous with wisdom, a person with the passage of time, increases in age, but not in wisdom. However, picking one’s battle can be a sign of wisdom. And since the Scriptures also tells us in James 1:20, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. The older a person gets, the pickier of battles he gets. And not everything should make one angry. The wise person sometimes keeps their mouth shut, which is advocated in Proverbs 17:27-28; The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.

Increasing in age under the tutelage of God brings wisdom. Yeshua is rarely or sometimes, never angry with us, because God is Wisdom, and He is the Father of all of us. The Ancient of Days, The Elder, who does not get angry, and therefore with an ever-increasing number of children. May Yeshua teach us to number our days, so we may gain a heart of wisdom. Amen.
