Is God a man that needs rest from His endeavours? Moses was credited as being the author of the Pentateuch or the Torah. Genesis 2:2-3; By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so, on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
However, the Entity called Jesus Christ differs from the account of Moses, in John 5:16-17; So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. In his defence Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” The statement “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath” is recorded in Matthew 12:8, Mark 2:28, and Luke 6:5. Jesus said “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” in the New Testament book of Mark 2:27. The Situation: Jesus and His disciples were walking through grainfields on the Sabbath, and the disciples began picking heads of grain to eat.
The Conflict: The Pharisees criticized them, arguing that plucking grain violated Sabbath laws against working. Jesus’s Response: Jesus defended His disciples by pointing out that the Sabbath was created as a gift and benefit to help human beings (for rest and renewal), rather than a rigid rule designed to burden or enslave them. The Conclusion: Jesus followed up by declaring in Mark 2:28, “So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath”.
What do we know about creation? Who was there? If the author was not there, then the account of the author should be subjected to internal auditing, authentication, and normalisation through the removal of personal bias, contextualisation, culture, and other environmental factors.
In Moses’ account of creation, God was supposed to have created everything in six days, who was measuring the length of a day? Given that, in the same account, we were informed that ‘Time’ was created for man on the fourth day – Genesis 1:14-19; And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
The same prophet Moses wrote in Psalm 90 verse 4; A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. Does this mean that the ‘six days’ in the creation story is tantamount to 13.8 billion years or four and a half billion years? Well, the only person or entity that can speak authoritatively on the subject is the One who was there. So, if the character Jesus Christ said that the Creator has never rested or has always been working. Then the question is, was the character Jesus Christ, the Creator, or was he there at creation? If the answer to either question is ‘yes’, then who is right between Moses and Jesus? You have free will; you can make up your own mind.
